Perhaps it is not necessary to have the Winmodem code rewritten for
Linux. Perhaps it would be possible to "fake" the Windows environment
the driver expects to run in. This way you can get the functionality
even if you don't have a driver for linux. Write a small "sandbox"
program which just barely emulates the calls the driver would expect
from Windows. It doesn't seem like it should be all that massive to
code around, since it's a low-level non-GUI hard ware device driver.

I don't claim any knowledge of linux or Windows programming. Just
offering a suggestion..
